28 Sep: 1:00 PM – Immigrant Accompaniment Training – St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 50 Orchard Ave., Providence, RI

Currently, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal agents are present throughout Rhode Island. They are detaining people who fit their profile of an immigrant. Many people who fear they may fit this profile are afraid to move throughout the state – to medical appointments, to school, to court, etc. The Lawyers’ Committee for Rhode Island, in partnership with the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, is offering a training for clergy and congregants who want to volunteer to accompany and support people who are experiencing this fear.

23 Oct: 4:00 PM – Waking Up the Earth | Poetry Reading – Westerly Library Auditorium

Poets have always written about the Earth. In their own words and images, poets say where they are, who they are, and what else lives with then in their surrounding world, be it terrestrial or oceanic, forested or plain, ice-bound or tropical. Margaret Gibson, former State of Connecticut Poet Laureate, and Christie Max Williams, current Poet Laureate of Stonington, Connecticut, will be reading their own poems and selections of other poets who are waking up and paying closer attention to our Earth in this time of global climate crisis.

25 Oct: Extended Meeting for Worship – Northampton Friends Meetinghouse – 9:00 am to 2:30 pm – In person and on Zoom

With joyful anticipation, Friends are invited to join us—in person or on Zoom—for a full day of worship this fall. Friends Michael Wajda and Jean Rosenberg have shared their gift of Extended Meetings throughout NEYM since 2022. Inspired by their faithfulness, we are offering the first of what we hope will be ongoing opportunities for longer periods of expectant waiting at meetinghouses in the Connecticut Valley.

08 Nov: Extended Worship Opportunity – Hanover Friends Meeting – 9:00 am to 2:30 pm – In person only

In earlier times Friends would often worship for hours fully expectant and deeply patient for the Living Presence to do its work in the gathered body of Friends. These gathered experiences were core to Quaker convincement, personal transformation, and prophetic challenges to the cultural behaviors in the places where Quakers lived. Modeled on a 25-year practice in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, we have begun these opportunities for NEYM Friends to experience a full day of Quaker worship.
